We are excited to share the recording How Ozempic Changed America, the second installment of our new series, where we perform articles to spark audience discussions about pressing issues in the news today. Many tuned into WNYC on Saturday and Tuesday to hear the radio broadcast and you can now listen anytime!
On March 13, Hope Davis performed “A Diet Writer’s Regrets,” written by Rebecca Johns for The Atlantic, to spark an audience discussion about the heath and wellness industry, Ozempic and other GLP-1 drugs, and the stigma around weight in America.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the live studio recording in person and on Zoom, for sharing their candid insights and personal stories about their health struggles, external and internal judgement, and medical interventions. We heard success stories, near death experiences, and a myriad of perspectives on weight.
On Wednesday, March 19, Rebecca Johns and Bryan Doerries were interviewed on WNYC’s All Of It, hosted by Alison Stewart, about the upcoming broadcast in a segment entitled, “Journalism, Performed: Reporting On Weight Loss Drugs Like Ozempic.”
It was a joy to collaborate with our partners at WNYC: Emily Botein, Jason Saul, Ryan Wilde, Mike Kutchman, Jared Paul, Rex Doane, and Kenya Young who created a dynamic radio broadcast that we are so excited to share!
We are grateful to Chase Culpon, Robert McGinnis, Milton Ruiz, Eric Weber, and Marika Hacking at WNYC for all their work to bring How Ozempic Changed America to fruition.. We are delighted to share these photos by Sean Ooi.
This series is directed and facilitated by Bryan Doerries, produced and technically directed by Marjolaine Goldsmith, with audience curation by Dominic Dupont, and also produced by Adam Iscoe.
This event was made possible by a generous grant from the Laurie M. Tisch Illumination Fund, and was co-presented by Theater of War Productions and WNYC, with special thanks to The Atlantic.
